Les Walton OBE, Chair of the Young People’s Learning Agency officially opened the College’s new Business Studies block when he visited the College on Tuesday, 2nd November.

Jonathan Godfrey, Principal, said, “The Young People’s Learning Agency is responsible for funding all 16-19 students in English schools and colleges. Les Walton is a distinguished educationalist who has advised a number of Prime Ministers and was appointed by the last government to lead the most important educational quango. I am delighted he was able to visit the College.”

Mr Walton said, “It was a pleasure to meet staff and students. This is an outstanding College and I was impressed not only by the atmosphere of hard work and commitment but also by the obvious enjoyment and enthusiasm shown by students. These new facilities are an excellent addition to the College’s accommodation.

Mr Walton who is currently advising the coalition government on the planning of post-16 education nationally added “I shall be advising the Prime Minister to ask all local authorities to consider establishing a Sixth Form College where this is not part of existing provision. They are some of the best providers of sixth form education in the country and Hereford is a shining example of such institutions.”
