VIRTUOSO OF TODAY MEETS STARS OF TOMORROW

Instrumental Scholars at Hereford Sixth Form College met internationally renowned cellist Julian Lloyd Webber at the Courtyard Theatre during his recent visit to Hereford. Jonathan Godfrey, Principal said “ Julian has been a strong supporter of our Scholarship Scheme from the start and has maintained an interest since he came to open our new music facilities. I am delighted he was able to encourage some of our talented musicians and answer their questions.”

Beth Jones, a cellist, said “It was great to meet Julian Lloyd Webber again. He coached me at a workshop at The Courtyard some time ago and we discussed a range of issues including practising and applying to music colleges.”

Will White, who plays the clarinet, commented “He was extremely supportive and it meant a lot that a musician of his standing was interested in what we are doing”.

Aryan Arji, Director of Music, said “We will soon be auditioning students for instrumental, choral and academic scholarships for next year. Interested musicians in year 11 should contact the College for details. The current scholars are already engaged in planning for a series of exciting events including a tour to perform in Cambridge Colleges, Choral Evensong at Hereford Cathedral on 24th November and at Worcester Cathedral on 3rd February and a chamber orchestra concert with Michael Bochman, leader of the English String Orchestra in the Lion Ball Room, Leominster on 4th February.
