Students receiving their well-deserved shields
More Awards for Sporting Students
9th July 2010
Every year BTEC National Diploma Sport & Exercise and Sports Coaching and Development students take part in Royal Lifesaving Society awards aimed at improving the students' water-based rescue skills and land-based first aid skills. They complete a structured programme of 18 training sessions and then complete an external examination which is both theoretical and practical in nature.
This year Hereford Sixth Form College has won two shields from the Herefordshire and Worcestershire branch of the Royal Lifesaving Society. These were awarded for achieving the highest number of awards in the two counties for Lifesaving and Resuscitation.
Head of Physical Education, Andy Douthwaite, commented:
“This is recognition for the staff in my team who work hard to prepare students for the examinations and also the College which is extremely supportive of such enrichment activities. We also see it as a service to the wider community and many of our students are employed locally within the sector as a result of the training they receive here at the College. In several cases over the last few years, students have put their skills to good use in helping members of the public who have found themselves in difficult circumstances.”
