Marches Yoghurt, Winners of the Regional Final
Young Entrepreneurs are set to hit London!
7th December 2009
As part of Global Entrepreneurship week, teams of 4-6 students were set a challenge to create a ‘cool creation’ inspired by their local environment. There was an abundance of great ideas, but Marches Yoghurt stood out and won the Hereford Sixth Form College competition. We were through to the West Midlands regional final which would determine who would represent the West Midlands in the national final.
The challenge entailed the teams creating a product or service that reduced carbon emissions and was inspired by their local environment. During our considerations, my team, Marches Yoghurt, thought of the many connotations associated with Hereford. We took advantage of the vast selection of agriculture Herefordshire offers and thus created a high-ended, ethically produced yoghurt.
We set about creating our product by drawing on local farm shops, suppliers and locations to aid us in setting realistic targets. We were able to draw on many brands originating from Herefordshire, such as Tyrrell’s crisps, for inspiration in many aspects of the business venture. Our team was then able to work efficiently and co-operatively together. The result was what was deemed a ‘robust’ presentation that impressed the judges. Our team was then set to hit Coventry.
Coventry set us a new challenge in presenting our product. We knew that there was going to be a broad selection of fierce competition. To add to this, our presentation time limit was extended. With this in mind the team was able to bond together in working effectively to improve the overall way of presenting our product.
Upon arrival we all felt somewhat nervous at the thought of presenting to a large audience of strangers. However, we were able to overcome this by presenting in an effective, professional manner. To our amazement we won the regional final and the Marches Yoghurt team is set to hit London, representing the West Midlands on Thursday 10th December. Watch this space!
