Art Department Temporarily Transforms Vacant Shop

23rd April 2009

Hereford Sixth Form College’s very successful Art Department, in collaboration with Herefordshire Council and the ESG, has recently launched a mini art exhibition at the site of the former Bliss Homes store in Franklin House.

Window displays have been set up with artwork from the four art disciplines that can be studied to A Level at the College - Fine Art, Graphic Design, Product Design and Textiles.

Head of Art, Nick Samsworth, said, "empty shops can attract the wrong sort of attention and become eyesores. Our idea, as is happening in a lot of towns across the country, is to temporarily transform this empty shop, keeping it alive and hopefully attracting future investment to the area. It's also a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent of our students to the local community."

Next time you're passing Franklin House take a look at this vibrant little corner of the city.

In the meantime, if any private landlords are looking for a similar project for an empty shop - please do not hesitate to contact the College.
