College Recycling Helps Local Wildlife

4th February 2009

At the College’s IT User Committee it was decided to donate our used inkjet printer cartridges to Herefordshire Nature Trust’s recycling appeal.

Inkjet cartridges are consumed by offices and individuals at an alarming rate, an amazing 375 million were dumped in our landfill sites last year alone. It is estimated that each cartridge will take around 1000 years to decompose. Most inkjet cartridges can be cleaned and refilled and reused, thus diverting waste from landfill and providing a lower cost product for the printing market.

Herefordshire Nature Trust
has teamed up with Redeem plc to launch a recycling campaign to collect unwanted used inkjet cartridges to help raise funds to support their work. Individuals can also help by donating their own ink cartridges and any unwanted old mobile phone handsets.

Herefordshire Nature Trust was established in 1962 and is the largest wildlife charity in the area. The Trust manages 54 Herefordshire nature reserves covering 290 hectares, including: woodland, grassland, marshland and orchards. The largest reserve is Lugg Meadow (a Site of Special Scientific Interest) on the edge of the city.
