Hereford Sixth Form College Tops County League Tables
20th January 2009
Hereford Sixth Form College has once again achieved the top A level score per student of all schools and colleges in Herefordshire, outperforming all maintained and independent schools in the county.
The points score of 957 is also the highest of all the (non-selective) open-access sixth form colleges in England.
This year the government has introduced a new value-added measure for A level which assesses the performance of pupils when prior achievement at GCSE is taken into account. On this measure the College has beaten all other schools and colleges in the county and is 4th equal in national league tables of over 500 colleges.
Jonathan Godfrey, Principal said “The league tables reflect the outstanding results achieved by students of all ability at the College and shows that students achieve grades significantly higher than if they had attended other schools and colleges. The new value-added measure has taken time to introduce and still has some shortcomings. It currently penalises institutions such as sixth form colleges in which students study large numbers of subjects. If this were rectified we could have been even higher!”
