Two Point Zero Challenge
12th December 2008
On Wednesday, 26th November, Ashley Lawrence, Peter Martin, Anne Price and Carleton Webb took part in a national competition run by the Bank of England and The Times and came runners-up for the West Midlands region.
Joined by Mike Crean, the College's Head of Economics, the team travelled to Aston University, Birmingham, to deliver a presentation to propose the level of interest rates they would recommend that the Bank of England should set in order to meet its inflation target of 2.0%.
The Target Two Point Zero Challenge has over 300 schools and colleges competing in it this year and the College's team faced stiff competition from schools such as Malvern College, King Edward's Five Ways and Bablake. In the end a strong King Edward's, Birmingham team were worthy winners.
The team proposed an interest of 2% but it was their explanation and presentation that impressed the Bank of England judges. All the work involved paid off and the team came home with some Bank of England goodies.
