Luke Frost after collecting his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Holder

1st December 2008

Luke Frost left Hereford Sixth Form College in 2007 and is now serving in the RAF based at Cosford, Shropshire. Last week he was presented with his Gold Award by The Patron, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh at a special Presentation held at St James’ Palace. Whilst a student, Luke worked with great energy and determination both in and outside College to complete the five sections of the Gold Award (Skill, Volunteering, Recreation, Residential and Expedition sections).

The Award takes a minimum of eighteen months and requires great commitment to complete all five sections in this time. Luke managed to do so whilst also studying for his A levels. He carried out voluntary work with his local cadets, training younger members; learnt how to play squash; became a skilled model maker; went to Germany on a cadet summer camp with other young people he had never met before; and completed the gruelling four day expedition in the Cambrian Mountains in extreme temperatures after first completing two practice expeditions. Luke’s mother and I were lucky enough to attend the presentation and celebrate with Luke and we both felt extremely proud. Completing the Award is an incredible accomplishment and is only achieved by a special person, someone who is prepared to “go the extra mile”.

The Award is in its 52nd year and has become a globally recognised achievement. The holders can be assured that it will help them in the future as it is recognised by employers and universities as the mark of someone who is committed to overcoming challenges and being the best that they can be. A holder of the Gold Award truly deserves to celebrate success. Well done Luke!
