Hereford Sixth Form College Tops League Tables Again

HEREFORD SIXTH FORM COLLEGE TOPS LEAGUE TABLES AGAIN
Once again Hereford Sixth Form College students have surpassed previous records with another outstanding set of examination results putting the College at the top of non-selective colleges and 7th overall in national press league tables.
The overall A level pass rate of 99% for over 630 candidates was 2% above the national average. 59% of A level entries resulted in an A or B grade, 9% above the national average and 30 subjects achieved a 100% pass rate.
Over 90 students gained 3 or more grade As at A level. William Alderton achieved an amazing haul of 7 grade As. While 2 students gained a staggering 6 grade As at A level.

Over 800 first year students sat AS examinations gaining equally superb results. The pass rate of 96% was 8% above the national average and 51% of entries resulted in A or B grades (13% above the national average).
Principal, Jonathan Godfrey said “Results at the College continue to be outstanding, particularly as we are the biggest A level centre in the area and an open-access institution. An analysis of the grades achieved shows that students with relatively modest GCSEs on entry gain excellent A level results. This value-added element and the overall educational experience Sixth Form Colleges can offer makes them special, out performing school sixth forms and many independent schools.”
Individual students named as gaining some of the best marks in the country were:
- Matthew Williams - top 5 in Physics (AQA)
- Kate Ennis - top 5 in General Studies (AQA)
- Patrick Fleming - top 10 in English Literature (Edexcel)
- James Yapp - top 10 in English Literature (Edexcel)
- Jacqueline Reynolds - top 10 in Biology (Edexcel)
At AS level, 127 students gained 3 or more grade As. Of these James Yapp (ex Ludlow C E School) gained 6 grade As at AS level while the following students gained 5 grade As.
