Debate Society Hands Over to New Executive

14th August 2008

This year's Debate Society executive has handed over the reins to a newly appointed executive. The past year has been an exceptional one, breaking all records for both attendance and also for the number of visiting speakers. Environmental concerns have been a consistent theme throughout the year - in keeping with the HSFC bid to gain eco-college status.

The Secretary, Katie Hames, has provided exceptional leadership over the year and has been backed by an innovative publicity team of Samantha Smith, Michael Wheeler and James Langford who together have ensured a large growth in the popularity of the society. The College is extremely proud of their commitment and professional attitude.

With their recent departure, this September's new second years have taken up the reigns of responsibility for directing the society. Anna McGivern will be Secretary for Debates, with Pat Smith, James Ling, Sam Green and Laura Meredith assuming responsibility for publicity. They have a high standard to follow, but I am sure that the enthusiasm they have already shown will carry the momentum into the next academic year.
