Farewell to Former Principal

25th January 2008

Staff and Governors at the College were sorry to hear of the death of former Principal, David Hudson, following a long illness.

Dr Hudson, headteacher at King James's School in Knaresborough for 10 years until bowel cancer forced him to retire in August, died in St Michael's Hospice in Harrogate last weekend. He was 59.

Dr Hudson was Principal at the College from 1989 to 1997.

The former Blackpool Grammar School pupil read Chemistry at Manchester University, where in 1972 he gained a PhD for research into crystal structures.

After working with young people in the Moss Side area, he became interested in teaching and was accepted in 1973 on the PGCE course at Nottingham University.

After two posts in Leicestershire, he was appointed Deputy Head at Beckfoot School in Bradford before becoming Principal of Hereford Sixth Form College where he managed the transition of the College from an LEA school to a self-governing institution.

Jonathan Godfrey the current Principal said "David was not just an outstanding teacher and inspirational leader but a valued colleague and friend".
