Peter Long - Obituary

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Peter Long on 29th December 2007. Peter, aged 74, was an international athlete in his youth, representing Wales and Bermuda whilst resident there. He was one of the first teaching staff at Hereford Sixth Form College.
Peter introduced A level Russian to the College curriculum in the 1970s (then a highly innovative step) and by the 1980s had built one of the largest and most successful Russian departments in the country at this level. For many students his trips to the, then, USSR were the highlight of their time at college.
Former students, colleagues and friends will remember Peter’s teaching ability, compassion and professionalism as well as his love of life and his dry urbane wit. Our condolences go to the families of his children Michael and Sally, including his seven grandchildren.
