Act of Remembrance
20th November 2007
Those, shall we say, of ‘more mature years’ who attended the College’s Act of Remembrance on 9th November may well have noticed a truly authentic timbre to the Last Post and Reveille.
These were played – and played brilliantly – by Michael Prestage who, rather than using a modern trumpet, chose to play these two pieces on his World War 1 style trumpet. Without valves this presents a challenge to the trumpeter, one Michael met with aplomb.
Michael provided a link of continuity with the two previous years’ Acts of Remembrance, at which his brother John was the trumpeter.
This year’s Act of Remembrance was held in the College’s new Pavilion, as the weather had turned unkind just prior to the mid-morning break when the Commemoration took place.
Two members of the College’s Christian Union, Jenni Dunthorne and Mark Williams, led the prayers, and the Principal, Dr. Jonathan Godfrey, read the Tribute to The Fallen.
The way in which students feel that they – and the whole College family – wish to remember with respect and thanksgiving, and to pay tribute, is most encouraging, especially as it seems to become more determined year by year.
