Faith's Fulfilment of Life Ambition

19th November 2007

Faith Ford has had a spring in her step - or perhaps in her soul - of late, for she has fulfilled what she describes as a “life-time’s ambition”.

Having written poetry since the age of 8, Faith is delighted to have had two poems commissioned and published recently.

Early Christmas Morning which reflects quite magically on the still, quiet of the early hours of Christmas Day - just as when Christ was born - and then hears the build-up of the noise of the exciting, joyful day, is included in the current edition of The Upper Room, a regular series of daily Bible-reading notes published by Methodist Publishing House.

Her other commissioned poem is entitled Fresh Out of Heaven, and is included in a Christmas anthology A Christian Companion: Bread of Heaven, again published by Methodist Publishing House.

Fresh Out of Heaven was written around the time of Faith’s poem Gethsemane Days which has appeared previously in The Review, and which Faith has generously, and privately, allowed many Churches and Church magazines to use.

Looking back on her writing, Faith recalls, “I enjoyed writing poetry from the time I was a young girl and wrote until around the time I was married. I guess that the busy-ness which comes with a young family meant little time to write then and, really, I didn’t feel very inclined to write around this time.”

Later, when she returned to a more active involvement with her Church, Faith was delighted to find that her poetry started to flow again. “It was quite amazing. It was as if I had found a well which flowed again.”

At present she is working on a series of poems, one for each month of the year. Hereford Cathedral and Castle Green are stimulating her writing, too, at present. A constant inspiration is her great love of Cornwall - and she’s intrigued to find that trunks and cases spark off her imagination as well, something perhaps to do with coming and going, looking back and, importantly, looking forward.
