Trip to Spain

How do you say in Spanish 'two left feet' or 'falling over trying to do a handstand

26th March 2007

Where to start? With so many great memories of the Spanish Department's recent trip to Spain, it's hard to pick just one!

Perhaps it was the trip to Granada. That was great fun.

After a three-hour bus journey everyone was relieved when we finally reached the hotel, at the end of a demanding week of intensive lessons and activities. Any tiredness we felt, however, was swept away when we found the hotel was staging a disco. Even better, students from a Spanish school, also on a trip, were there to share the fun.

It was wonderful to meet so many welcoming Spaniards, who greeted us as soon as we stepped onto the dance floor. Let's just say, the Spaniards certainly know how to move their bodies! I tried to explain I had two left feet and therefore couldn't dance, but this immediately made them stare at each other with looks of astonishment. They must have taken me literally!! Most of us took it as a perfect chance to show off our dance moves! In some cases it was a chance to demonstrate how to fall over whilst trying to do a handstand (sorry, no naming and shaming in this article, Alex)! Fortunately, Miss Amy Gregg was there to show us how traditional Spanish dancing is done! Watch out Strictly Come Dancing! That evening we all shared so many laughs, dancing the night away!

The following morning, yes, we did manage to get up! Our visit was to the famous Alhambra Palace. The architecture was breathtakingly beautiful, and we were all in awe of the astonishing craftsmanship put into the decoration of the palace.

The whole trip was fantastic! None us wanted to come home! We had all made great friendships during the trip, and gelled well together! It certainly was a once-in-a-life-time experience, which none of us shall forget.

None of it, and none of the marvellous experiences we shared, would have been possible without Miss Amy Gregg and Ruth Brinton, so THANK YOU once again to them. Could it be that they enjoyed it as much as we did? We certainly hope so!
